        The Why

In today's fast-paced world, where digital connectivity often replaces genuine human interaction, many individuals find themselves increasingly disconnected not only from each other, but also from their own inner selves. Dr. Denning, drawing from her diverse background in psychology, osteopathic medicine, as well as her extensive coursework in philosophy and religion, recognizes this growing disconnect and its profound implications on our well-being.

Many of us have never paused to examine our values, beliefs, and what truly resonates with our innermost selves. These are the foundational principles that should ideally be imparted in educational settings, yet are often left unaddressed, leaving individuals feeling adrift when faced with life's decisions. As a result, we may find ourselves wavering in our convictions, unsure of what we genuinely support or stand for, and sometimes succumbing to pressures that conflict with our true desires.

As people navigate through life, often feeling lost, alone, and uncertain about the future amidst a seemingly perilous world, Dr. Denning advocates for a deeper introspection into our innermost selves. She believes that by delving into the core of our being—understanding our values, principles, and aspirations—we can pave a path towards fulfillment and alignment. By fostering a connection to something greater than ourselves, whether it be spiritual, philosophical, or simply a sense of purpose, we can cultivate a profound sense of meaning and direction in our lives.

        Mind-Body-Spirit Connection

At Simpura, we believe that the mind, body, and spirit are deeply interconnected, and that nurturing this connection is essential for overall health and well-being. Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors have a profound impact on our physical health, influencing everything from our cardiovascular system to our immune response.

For example, when we experience anger or harbor resentment, our bodies react physically: muscles become tense, blood pressure rises, heart rate increases, and breathing quickens. Over time, these physiological responses can negatively impact our health, contributing to conditions such as chronic stress, hypertension, and more. Conversely, when we practice things like forgiveness, kindness, and compassion, our bodies respond in a healing manner: our bodies relax, our blood pressure lowers, heart rate decreases, and breathing becomes more regular. It feels as though a heavy weight lifts from us when we let go of negative emotions like anger, jealousy, and competitiveness. Numerous studies support these observations, illustrating the profound connection between our emotional states and physical health.

For instance, research published in the Journal of Behavioral Medicine highlights how chronic anger can lead to hypertension and heart disease, while a study in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine found that practicing forgiveness can lower blood pressure and reduce stress. Understanding how negative emotions can harm our bodies and how positive emotions can promote healing is a key aspect of our holistic approach. By fostering a balanced state of mind and cultivating positive behaviors, we can significantly improve our health outcomes and quality of life.

        What You Can Expect

Our 12-week Mindful Living Program at Simpura is designed to help patients explore the profound impact of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors on their health.

Each week, we delve into a specific theme, starting with an introduction to the mind-body-spirit connection, followed by understanding stress, the power of positive thinking, cultivating kindness and compassion, letting go of anger and resentment, the role of gratitude, building healthy relationships, mindfulness and presence, self-compassion and self-care, aligning with personal values, spirituality and inner peace, and finally, reflection and future planning.

Central to our program is the fostering of open and candid discussions, providing patients with a nurturing environment to explore their deepest thoughts, emotions, and aspirations. Through these dialogues, individuals are encouraged to unearth their core values, clarify their moral compass, and envision the person they aspire to become. By closely examining their inner beliefs and behaviors, patients gain invaluable insights into areas of misalignment and are equipped with practical strategies to effect positive change.

We recognize that personal growth is a lifelong journey, and our program is designed to instill a culture of continuous improvement and holistic well-being. We are committed to supporting individuals on their path to fulfillment and self-realization, empowering them to lead lives aligned with their true essence and purpose.
